Through February 13, 2010 7:30 PM
Location
Richard Hugo House

How do you choose between your country, your people, and yourself?  Especially when your own country doesn’t consider you worthy of being called a full citizen?  Do you fight for change or do you get out while you can?

These are some of the questions RETURNING THE BONES asks.  It is based on the true story of the African American doctor, Caroline Beatrice Montier, (aka “Bebe”) now 84.  After being invited to finish her medical degree in Europe shortly after WWII, Bebe has to choose between staying in the South (and continuing to risk her life in the fight for Civil Rights), or escaping to Paris to live a life she’s always dreamed of.

RETURNING THE BONES is a solo show with 26 characters and multiple dialects performed by Helen Hayes Award-winner, Gin Hammond. Classic storytelling combined with a fluid physical style will bring you on a journey of many miles, perspectives, and epiphanies.

Directed by Jane Jones, Co-Artistic Director of Book-It Repertory Theatre.

$17.50 advance tickets and $22.00 at the door.

Sandbox Members read new play “The Troublemaker’s Mother”

Sandbox Member Projects

Sandboxers Tracy Hyland, Richard Ziman, Leslie Law and Lori Larsen were involved in a reading of the new play “The Troublemaker’s Mother” at member Annette Toutonghi’s new studio space on Queen Anne last Monday the 9th.  Lori directed the reading of the play, a commission by the Finlandia Foundation based on stories from the Finnish epic poem “The Kalevala”, written by Nick DiMartino, music by Kim Douglass.  The play is still in process, with rewrites to come and more music to be composed; three public performances are scheduled for February.

Fabulous launch of the space…can’t wait for more events. Thanks, Annette!  All Sandbox members should take a look at the space and talk to Annette about rental fees – its the ultimate place for recitals, readings, whatever!
