“Forbidden Phoenix” is a stylized world that fuses Chinese opera and
western musical theatre.

Role:  Sun Wukong, The Monkey King – Tenor.  Looking for a strong
singer/ actor/ mover with training in martial arts an asset.  A widowed
father with a sense of justice, fair play and trickster humour.  He
wants to find a better life for his son and his people.

Please note that actors will need to appear live at these auditions,
August 18th and 19th, therefore no video submissions will be screened at
this time.

Rehearsals begin March 7, 2011 and the run is from April 7-23, 2011.
Simon Johnston is the director, Allen Stiles the musical director and
Marlise McCormick the choreographer. Perusal scripts are available for

Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity

Kaleidoscope is a not-for-profit, professional Theatre for Young
Audience based in Victoria, BC with a current operating budget of
$500,000. Over the past ten years Kaleidoscope has seen a revitalization
of its programming and operations, which now include two main stage
plays, school tours, a Family Series, a Theatre School, and numerous
outreach programs.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Artistic Director works with
the General Manager to fulfill the Society’s goals. The Artistic
Director has responsibility for the artistic management of the Society.

The ideal candidate will be a practicing professional theatre artist
familiar with issues of professional theatre for young audiences, have
experience in directing, management, play development, actor training
and educational programming, and possess strong leadership skills.  The
ideal candidate should also possess: strong grant and proposal writing
skills; experience in financial and project management; the ability to
effectively build and manage relationships with everyone from senior
funders to artists, schools, patrons, students, and volunteers; and the
capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Additional information:
Pacific Opera Victoria (POV) is seeking a Stage Manager for its School
Tour production of Hansel and Gretel. This is a 7 week engagement,
commencing September 27, 2010.

The candidate will be responsible for the stage management of rehearsals
and performances for POV’s Young Artist Training Program. This
production will tour Elementary and Middle Schools in the Greater
Victoria area. The individual will have confidence in stage management
systems and will be proficient in reading music and following a musical
score.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in opera or musical
theatre and demonstrate a keen interest in maintaining productive
relationships with artists, production and music staff, and will possess
a valid Drivers’ License.

This position shall be engaged under the auspices of The Opera
Agreement, Canadian Actors’ Equity Association, and salary commensurate
with Second Stage minimum fees.

Equity members hired will be engaged under an Equity form of contract
